“I’d only been out of pharmacy school for a few years when the first AIDS case was documented in 1981... At first, nobody knew what was happening; we just knew people were dying and there was no cure. There was a lot of stigma, fear and confusion in those days, and the community wasn’t sure who they could trust. Celebrating our 30th anniversary this year, we pay tribute to some of the champions who’ve been featured in our pages: . Tatyana's story: "When she was incarcerated...they would send her to a local HIV clinic every three months, and that is where she discovered POSITIVELY AWARE. She told me it gave her hope—I think her exact words were, it saved my life.
